So, for obsessive Christmas fans like ourselves, it can be a bit trying to constantly have to hide your love of Christmas. Luckily there’s a special time in the summer when it’s a little bit more socially acceptable to bring up Christmas in casual conversation – that’s right – we’re talking about Christmas in July.

Odds are, if you’re like me, then you have friends and family that are generally toleratant of your constant excitement about the Holidays in November and December – but a little less so when it comes to the hot summer days of July. So – with that in mind, we have a few tips on how you can celebrate Christmas in July, under the radar.

This post is the first in our Christmas in July Blog Swap – we’re super excited to announce partnership with these lovley blogs, who will be sharing their own articles about Christmas in July in the coming weeks!

Christmas In July Under the Radar - Die Hard

The first and best tip for celebrating Christmas in July without anyone getting too bothered is by watching movies that you consider to be very holiday-centric that perhaps other’s wouldn’t agree with you on. A few examples of this would be Die Hard, Batman Returns, Gremlins, or pretty much anything on our Scary Christmas Movies list.

Red and White

For myself and my fellow Canadians, dressing in all red-and-white is easy to get away with, especially on July 1st (Canada Day) but if you want to sneekily celebrate Christmas in July all summer long – you certainly can by dressing in your favourite white summer dress, matching with some red shoes. Or perhaps you have some bright red jeans that you can wear with a crisp white tee? Maybe you’re even lucky enough to own a sunhat like this one:

If so, dressing like it’s December 25th on July 25th should be a peice of cake…. and speaking of cake, our next tip:

Peppermint Everything

There’s no mistaking that Candy Canes are one of the most iconic flavours of Christmas. But it doesn’t mean that you can only enjoy the flavour of peppermint around the Holidays. Most non-christmas-aholics won’t even notice if it’s beginning to taste a lot like Christmas around the house when you start whipping up some mint flavoured treats. Luckily this versatile flavour is great for the hot summer months too. Here are a few Peppermint themed desserts and drinks that would go down just as well around a pool, as a Christmas Tree.

Shopping

One of the more socially acceptable ways to celebrate Christmas in July is the inevitable retail cash-in that is Christmas in July sales. But, it’s not a bad idea to maybe start thinking about big-ticket items this early in the year. If you don’t want to go on a spending spree right now, it’s a great time to do some major research for the gifts you may have to save-up for. Christmas in July sales will give you a good idea of the hot/popular items of the year so far, and price details on what you can expect to pay later in the year, say on Black Friday.

If you’re in a position to actually buy the items you want to get, all the better. It’s much more likley that you’ll pay less now than during the run-up to the busiest shopping time of the year in the fall.

(Re)Decorate!

Part of the magic of the Holidays is being able to put up some seasonal decorations, making your house more festive, and there’s no reason why you can’t do the same in July. Although the motif might change slightly – maybe instead of Snowmen, you chose Seashells – maybe instead of garland you choose ribbons, but the idea is still the same. Set aside some time to add a little flair to every room, and if you’re really into it – you could always go with a full Summer Christmas Tree!
