To celebrate our site relaunch I’ve put together a few special posts to help you celebrate these warm summer days in a really cool way,  today I would like to share some Christmas in July treats. These adorable little Melon Ball Snowmen, or as I’ve decided to call them “Snowmelon Men”. If you’re looking for a summer snack that has a festive touch, or would like a less sugary alternative to Marshmallow Snowmen, these are perfect.

You’ll need a honeydew or cantaloupe melon, some red licorice string, kabab or cake pop sticks, a melon baller (ideally two sizes), raisins or currants for eyes and some seeds for the nose (I used pumpkin, but you can used shaved almonds, sunflower, or even peanuts if no one is allergic). Finally, and entirely optional – I used some Rolos for hats.

Ball half of the melon with the large size scoop and the other half with the small size scoop.

You should end up with at least enough melon to make 6-8 snowmen (the better at scooping you are the less waste there will be).

Stack two large and one small melon ball on each cake pop stick! Easy Peasy!

Decoration

Next, just get your decoration supplies ready and all your snowmen lined up.

Wrap the red licorace around like a scarf, really this couldn’t be easier.

It might be tricky to get the currants/raisins to stick to the melon so I used a toothpick to indent a bit. Then, simply insert your ‘nose’ seed.

Sure, he might look a bit derpy, but he’s cute in his own way.

For the hat (entirely optional – if you don’t want to use candy, strawberries could work here too), you may need to ‘pre-drill’ a hole before inserting to the cake pop end, or your chocolate might crack. I also suggest putting the Rolos in the fridge or freezer for a few minutes before using them, mine were too soft and melty for my liking.
