Christmas spectacular
Christmas is spectacular, and one of the most scintillating experiences you can have during the Christmas season is watching the glamorous Christmas Spectacular show presented by Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It’s a massive performance that has a legend going back 75 years. It debuted in 1933 and the eight week show has continued to be a sellout success since then. While it remains the most glamorous Christmas show in the United States, Christmas spectacular has also gone on the road. Since 1994, the show has been performed to a growing number of audiences across the country.
Entertainment for common people
The original Christmas Spectacular is performed on the fine stage of Radio City Music Hall. It was built by John D. Rockefeller shortly after the stock market crash in 1929. Rockefeller combined his financial power with the media strength of Radio Corporation of America (RCA) and artistic talent of S.L. “Roxy” Rothafel. Together they set out to build a place that would offer the highest quality entertainment at prices that common people could afford. The result was a larger than life, monumental piece of architectural marvel call Radio City Music Hall. Since its inauguration, more than 300 million people have visited Radio City to enjoy movies, stage shows, concerts and other events. No wonder it’s often call the American People’s Palace. And one of the spectacles of this palace has been the Christmas Spectacular show, year after year, since 1933. Each year, over a million people participate in the exciting extravaganza of the Christmas Spectacular show.
The show continues with some traditional favorites like the “The Parade of Wooden Soldiers” and the “Living Nativity”, but adds surprise delights every year. In their 75 year celebratory show in 2007, the Rockettes took the audience of Christmas Spectacular on a thrilling ride of Manhattan in the midst of the holiday season. The show had the performers riding an almost life sized double-decker bus through the landmarks of New York City. It was a huge performance, with dynamic montage in the background and a large cast of performers. Such a performance is probably possible on the stages of Radio City only.
A must watch show
The Christmas Spectacular is a must watch show for almost anyone. It’s an once-in-a-lifetime experience that costs only around $250 per seat. And when you buy a ticket to watch the Christmas Spectacular at the Radio City Music Hall, you don’t have to worry too much about “which” seat. The architecture of the theater makes every seat a “good seat.” The show starts in November and continues until the end of December. However, the “peak” times of “Christmas Spectacular”, around Christmas, is usually sold out well in advance. If you plan to be in New York and watch the show, get your tickets as soon as possible. The memory of Rockefeller continues with the tradition of the tree lighting in front of the Rockefeller Center. It continues to be the country’s favorite Christmas destination. A visit to New York City that combines attending the tree lighting ceremony and watching the “Christmas Spectacular” show could very well be an experience of a lifetime.
