Last Minute Tips to Prepare Your Home For Holidays
Holidays are almost here and everyone wants to relax and have a good time with their family. However, that means that there is a lot of preparation to do. You have to clean the house, put up decorations, and make sure everything is in order for the Holidays. You certainly want to avoid stress and chaos as much as possible, and to help you with that here are a few last-minute tips to help you prepare everything.
The first thing to do is to declutter. Excess items and things all over the place will not look good with decorations on them, so start decluttering as soon as possible. Go through every room and spend some time in them to see what you can declutter. Go through piles of clothes, home accessories, paperwork and built-up clutter. Everything you don’t want anymore you can send to charities, sell or simply throw it away if it’s unusable. After that, it’s time to do some cleaning.
Since you will be putting up decorations that will stay inside your home for a few weeks, you won’t be able to do too much cleaning around them. That’s why it is essential to conduct a deep clean throughout the whole house. This way, your decorations will get an extra sparkle, and you won’t have to move things around in order to properly clean your home. You can start by cleaning all the surfaces with a multi surface cleaner, washing all the drapes, deep cleaning the furniture, vacuuming every nook and cranny and washing everything that can be washed. This deep clean after decluttering will refresh the space and make room for your decorations.
Decide on the Type of Decorations
Once everything is clean, it’s time to decide what type of holiday decorations you want. Consider the materials you want to use, the style of decorations, colors, and how many you need. Do you want a real Christmas tree or a fake one? How big should it be? Will you use more wood and natural elements for decorations this year? The list of questions could go on, so pour yourself a glass of wine and start making decisions.
Make a List
When everything has been cleaned and you’ve decided on the theme and type of decorations, it’s time to come up with a list. Your list can include anything and everything you need to do and get for the holidays. If you will be hosting a holiday dinner for family and friends, create a list with all the ingredients you need. You might even wanna do some shopping to restock at home before the holidays hit. You can also make a list of decorations you need to get, activities to do before you start the holiday relaxation and anything else you might need. So, come up with a list, make a plan and go on to get everything you need.
Prepare for Overnight Guests
Many people love hosting family gatherings for the holidays and that is a perfect opportunity to relax and have fun with everyone. However, you have to consider overnight guests if your family is visiting for a few days. This means that your grocery list will expand and now is the time to plan the menus, too. Additionally, don’t forget to prepare enough space for them. If you have a guest room, make sure it is all nice and tidy, warm, and decorated. Clean the bedding and even put up a few holiday pillows to make them comfier. And don’t forget to heat up that room, too!
Prep the Bathroom
Just like you need to set up the guest room, you should make sure all the bathrooms are fully stocked. Make sure there are enough clean towels for everyone, buy more toilet paper if needed, and replenish those toiletries. You don’t want to end up short on bathroom supplies when having guests over, so restock everything.
Holidays are magical, but they can be stressful, too. However, if you make lists and keep everything organized and fully stocked, there will be no stress on your end. Happy Holidays!
