Frequently asked question about Christmas for Kids section
If you already have a recent browser and have problems accessing the Java games, be sure the “Java enabled” function of your browser is switched on (in Netscape: Edit – Preferences – Advanced – Enable Java).
Q. How do I perform a “Screen Capture” for some of the games at the North Pole?
On a Macintosh, pressing Command-Shift-3 creates a PICT file of the entire screen in the top directory of your boot drive. Press Command-Shift-4 to change the cursor to a cross, which you can click and drag to select an area of the screen to capture in a PICT file. Adding the Control key to either of these combinations copies the screen image to the clipboard which may then be pasted in an image editor.
For best results on the projects available in our Printables section, use cardstock or index paper and select high quality printing in your printer’s set up options. In 2005, AllThingsChristmas converted all of its Printables to PDF documents. The PDF file format (Portable Document Format), makes sharing documents over the Internet fast, easy and reliable. A well made PDF file will look the same on all computers regardless of operating system, fonts or browser making PDF files most useful for documents intended for printing. Viewing PDF files requires Adobe Acrobat Reader, standard on most newer computers. If you do not already have Adobe Acrobat Reader, it may be obtained free by visiting the Adobe Website.
MIDI is an acronym for Musical Instrument Digital Interface, a standard adopted by the electronic music industry for controlling devices, such as synthesizers and sound cards, that emit music. A MIDI representation of a sound includes values for the note’s pitch, length, and volume.
MIDI files do not contain actual recorded music. Instead, the music sequence is recorded as a series of numbers which explain how the music is to be played back.
To play a Midi File simply click on it and give it time to load. You can also download Midi files by right-clicking on the file name and selecting either SAVE TARGET AS or SAVE LINK AS (depending on you browser) and then save to a selected file on your hard drive.
Playing a MIDI File requires a sound card, speakers and driver software. Most computers already have these, but if you are unable to hear the music, you may need to download a MIDI plug-in. You may download Free MIDI plug-ins in a matter of minutes which will allow you to play MIDI files.
The MIDI files found on All Things Christmas Music page have been selected from across the internet and were created and/or arranged by others. They have been selected for their sound and quality when played on a basic home computer.
