I had the same problem for years. Gradually I stopped buying anything that didn't have a deer resistant label. I couldn't grow any cucumbers; everytime I saw a beautiful blossom, it was gone the next day!

When we first moved here 22 years ago, we didn't have a deer problem and my garden was the envy of the neighborhood. We live only a few blocks away from the largest state park in NY State. Deer hunting is illegal in my county so the population has soared! I used to plant only marigolds which the deer wont touch, but they are not my favorite flowers. Applying deer repellent only works if you NEVER forget to reapply it after the rain (*so if it rains in the middle of the night - when the deer are out - you are out of luck!). This year I had a bumper crop of Black Eyed Susans. The deer wont touch them until they bud. As soon as they did, the deer feasted on hundreds of buds! Depressing!

Many people here plant things and then surround them with netting. Boy does that look ugly defeats the whole purpose of flowers!
