SB - have a great time with your village this year. I have been setting one up for more than 25 years. It's grown from 4 houses to 32 - many of them Lemax. Let me give you a few hints:
1. Find a quiet, yet prominent spot so that there is little foot traffic (avoiding accidents) yet can be seen by all. I have a log bin next to my fireplace which is the perfect spot. I set mine up on a hillside - backing a wall - with all the house facing forward.
2. Use the boxes that the houses come in to build high spots and cover with "snow" blankets.
3. Also use the snow blankets to camophlage the electrical cords. Try not to use the single-socket cords that come with the houses, but get the multi-socket ones. The wiring is the hardest part. I like to set it so that most of the cords run under the blanket (downhill) in the middle of the village. If you set yours up on a table, just try to run all of the cords together at one spot so you can use one electric plug panel.
4. Use plastic "snowflakes" to hide anything that shouldn't be seen or to create "edging". I have a small mirror lake and I soften the edges with this snow!
Hope I have the energy to do this again this year. It is a 7 or 8 hour project for me and an extremely messy one!
I'm Dreaming of a White Christmas
Thank you so much OM for great advice. I really appreciate itI have to get a snow blanket. Mom didn't think of that.
