What are some good ideas to set a Christmas atmosphere?

When I put the tree up, I usually attach my train set, put some more decorations around the house, but NONE of it is enough. I want more of an atmosphere - so, I ask, what are some other good ideas? Any particular set of lights or items I can use to make it more Christmassy?

You simply MUST grab the attention of Papa Christmas! And tinkerbell2 does several rooms.

A really good way to make it look christmassy is to put pine swags/garlands with red bows to mantles, doorways etc. While real is preferred, I use artificial to save the cost and time of re-buying each year. Also it is safer by the fireplace and lasts much longer than real

Here's a tip: Utilize ALL the senses, not just visual. I recommend focusing on your sense of SMELL!! I saw bags of pine cones today that smelled like cinnamon. Maybe a scented candle, or pot pourri...once you fill a room with the SMELL of the holidays, it really comes alive!!

I have done that in my home, but I was thinking of renting the party room at my condo this year to throw a Christmas party. I was trying to think of ways to decorate that would be easy to take up and take down. I think I'll use this suggestion.It didnt dawn on me to do the Christmas scents. That will really help set the holiday mood!
