Most of my church has been complaining for weeks about Santa, reindeer, Christmas decorations in the stores early, the 'commercialism' of the whole holiday. They said they couldn't believe how awful it was that Santa says only GOOD girls and boys will get presents. They speak of it as if it's just evil. I've been biting my tongue, but I'm really feeling that I ought to stick up for it. I love the whole thing. I have no problem celebrating both the religious and the secular. I think if you are religious minded, your thoughts tend toward that anyway, no matter what time of year. I don't think that a practicing Christian will be so busy throughout the whole season as to forget to think about the birth. And someone who isn't interested in it will not be guilted into celebrating it, no matter how many admonishments. It's a warm wonderful time of year for me and the lights, decorations (in the stores and around town), the thinking about what other people would enjoy, and even Santa- it all amplifies good feelings for me and good will toward men.
