The developer of a major housing scheme in Chichester has offered to stump up the £15,000 needed so the city can have its Christmas lights.
Linden Homes, which is behind the Graylingwell Park development, decided to take action after hearing that Chichester was now in the dark after businesses did come up with the money needed to put them up this year.
The city council is now considering the offer given the short timescales involved.
Linden Homes’ managing director for the south east Steve Bangs said: “As a housebuilder we know how vitally important it is to create a strong community sprit.
“It’s such a shame that after so many years Chichester would be without its Christmas lights, so we wanted to step in and help so that residents and visitors alike will be able to enjoy a glittering city centre this Christmas.
