    Odd Christmas Carols

I used to wonder why Good King Wenceslas and I Saw Three Ships were considered Christmas carols. At least now that we have internet I don't have to go to the library to research their origin.

Are there Christmas carols that you've wondered about?

"Hail him who saves you by his grace,
and crown him Lord of all."

None come to mind except those two. I love them both, even if I never knew why they were Christmass songs! And that's a fascinating site!

There are lots of secular songs which never mention Christmass, of course, but usually having something to do with snow. Which makes 'em good in my book, lol.
Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.

Yes, we hear those songs about snow on the radio this time of year: Winter Wonderland, Sleigh Ride, The Winter Song (Angel -- 1978), Snow, etc. Are there more?

    The Winter Song

    Winter is here
And it's cold this time of year
    There's snow everywhere in sight
    Falling on this winter night

    By candlelight
    We share this chilly night
There's frost on the window pane
    Winter nights are here again

There's a feeling in the air
    Feel the spirit everywhere
Winter winds on Heaven and earth

    By the fireplace
There's a smile on every face
    The ice begins to cling
    Listen to the children sing

    Looking outside
The city lights all come alive
    People running all around
They fill the streets with a happy sound

There's a feeling in the air
    Feel the spirit everywhere
Winter winds on Heaven and earth

Hear the angels join the choir
Let them take the music higher
Through winter days on Heaven and earth

There's a feeling in the air
    Feel the spirit everywhere
Winter winds on Heaven and earth

Hear the angels join the choir
Let them take the music higher
Through winter days on Heaven and earth

    Snow (hey Oh)
Come to decide that the things that I tried
Were in my life just to get high on
When I sit alone come get a little known
But I need more than myself this time

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe it, that we rely on
When I lay it on come get to play it on
    All my life to sacrifice

Hey oh, listen what I say oh, I got your
Hey oh, now listen what I say oh

When will I know that I really can't go
To the well once more time to decide on
When it's killing me, when will I really see
All that I need to look inside?

Come to believe that I better not leave
Before I get my chance to ride
When it's killing me, what do I really need?
All that I need to look inside

Hey oh, listen what I say oh, come back and
Hey oh, look at what I say oh

The more I see the less I know
The more I'd like to let it go
    Hey oh, whoa oh whoa

Deep beneath the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
Privately divided by a world so undecided
    And there's nowhere to go

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
And it's so white as snow
    Running through the field
Where all my tracks will be concealed
And there's nowhere to go, ho!

When to descend to amend for a friend
All the channels that have broken down
Now you bring it up, I'm gonna ring it up
Just to hear you sing it out

Step from the road to the sea to the sky
And I do believe what we rely on
When I lay it on, come get to play it on
    All my life to sacrifice

Hey oh, listen what I say oh, I got your

In between the cover of another perfect wonder
Where it's so white as snow
    Running through the field
Where all my tracks will be concealed
    And there's nowhere to go

I said hey hey yeah, oh yeah
    Tell my love now
    Hey hey yeah, oh yeah
    Tell my love now

Very interesting, especially the story behind The 12 Days of Christmas. Don't know how I managed to miss this thread before.

I, for some reason, always thought the three ships represented the three wise men???

There's always my favorite of all the "snow" songs; Let It Snow, Let It Snow, Let It Snow! Which I'll play endlessly the first good, deep snow here!
Is it all real? Ah, Virginia, in all this world there is nothing else real and abiding.
