There may be no civic christmas lights this year

So let the raucous sleigh bells jingle,
Hail our dear old friend kris kringle,
Driving his reindeer across the sky.
Don't stand underneath when they fly by.

That said they were a let-down last year, shoddy strings of dingy low-energy bulbs, not worth the thousands that have been wasted on them over the past few years. I'd rather the shopkeepers made the effort of brightening their window displays, there could even be a competition...

One week to go and it looks unlikely that enough will be raised.

Reports on local radio news that there wasn't enough money raised to keep the lights running. I'll post a link when it is confirmed in the local paper. A search of Google News reveals that Chichester is not alone in pulling the plug on its' civic lights.

    Cool

That's terrible! If all businesses chipped in just a little, I'm sure they could come up with something.

UPDATE: An anonymous benifactor has offered to make up the 12,000 shortfall, though how anyone has that sort of money to donate on a whim is beyond me, there are far more urgent and needy causes in the world to donate to.

That's fantastic news! I was really hoping that the businesses would do their part though...

Probably some Christmas Nut (like us!) that has a lot of spare change.
