If you substituted "Guy Fawks" for "4th of July" you are explaining our (American) holiday. Its funny how we do similar activities for often completely different reasons.
I don't really know a whole lot about Guy Fawkes other than he tried to blow up Parliament. Didn't they burn him and send his ashes to the Pope in rome or something like that? The English really knew how to take care of business back then.
We're pretty much indifferent to him in the States. Partly because we have a large Catholic population and the whole Revolution thing..
"I have always thought of Christmas time, when it has come round, as a good time; a kind, forgiving, charitable time; the only time I know of, in the long calendar of the year, when men and women seem by one consent to open their shut-up hearts freely, and to think of people below them as if they really were fellow passengers to the grave, and not another race of creatures bound on other journeys." ~Charles Dickens
