Question "Cool Yule" by Steve Allen at Piano?

Over a decade ago (I think it was in the early nineties) I worked for a guy who didn't celebrate Christmas so I was working in his office on Christmas Eve and a program came on NPR that I think was called "A Piano Jazz Christmas." It sounded like it was being broadcast live. The format was that they went to various locations around the country and had musicians play their favorite christmas tunes.

One of the musicians was Steve Allen who played "Cool Yule."

I've been hunting for a recording of this program ever since.

Do any of you know if that recording of Steve Allen playing "Cool Yule" is available in any format?

I'm still trying to track down this recording.

I contacted some folks at NPR and they passed the buck from one person to another, but it turned out that no-one had a clue what had become of the tape of that program.

It's such a shame that a recording of Steve Allen performing live on the radio his Christmas pop hit, that's been covered by so many artists over the years, has been lost to us

It's been over two-and-a-half years since I posted my query about that Steve Allen performance and I have to confess that by the end of last year I had given up hope of ever being able to hear it again.

I had exchanged numerous emails with NPR staff, but no-one had a clue how to find it.

But then last November I got a message over at "The Yule Log Message Board" from a contributor there who said he thought he had found a CD at amazon.com that might contain that recording:

Well, I ordered the CD and guess what?

Yup! That CD has a recording that sounds very much like the one I remembered hearing on the radio a couple of decades ago.

Lots of other great tunes on the CD too!
