Definately not fake. There are alot of people who do this these days. Check out Light O'rama, as they make and sell the hardware and software in order to do this www.lightorama.com . On their site they have alot of videos. It is pretty expensive though and can be very time consuming if you have alot of lights and channels. I've read that some people spend upwards of 100hrs to program 1 minute of song.

Right now you can purchase a pre-programmed box (find them at Walmart, Costco and other places) for about $100 that will do it for you. All you have to do is plug in your lights. It's called the Lights & Sounds Controller by Mr. Christmas.
