One tradition that my family have always done is riding around to look at Christmas lights. There is one town in particular not too far from where we live that we have always visited since I was a child. The town of McAdenville, NC does a wonderful Christmas lights display. This is done each year for the past 57 years and is a wonderful experience.

I love the idea of everyone being together and singing. :singing:We have never done that in my family... We have always listened to Christmas music while we exchange gifts and spend time together though; old records are the best.

One traditon that we have is to go to The Lights Before Christmas at the Toledo Zoo. They make the zoo look absolutely amazing with over 1 million lights and a dancing lights show set to music! We love walking through the zoo listening to the carolers sing and warming our hands by the chimineas while we sip our hot cocoa after visiting Santa and his reindeer! It is always a wonderful evening!

I just found the following site and wanted to share:
Ugly Christmas Lights (http://www.uglychristmaslights.com/)
Some of them are pretty bad, but I did see a few that actually weren't bad... I guess it all depends on the person. Either way, enjoy! :waving:

Last Christmas I was viseting a friend in California. One night we decided to drive around a very wealthy part of town to check out the Christmas lights. On our way we passed a nice middle class home with a HUGE home made Christmas display. We got out of the car to check it out. There were alot of other people checking it out as well. Neither one of us were all that impressed, and we went off to see how the rich folks decorated. We did see some very nice displays, but the more we thought about it, the more we liked the first house. Sure it wasnt that well done, but it had heart. Isn't that what it's all about anyway? The other houses, though tastefull, may as well have been a shopping mall. They were all rather forgetable. It's been nearly a year, and I still think of that house. Those people really got it, and I'm sorry my initial reaction was to move on to something better, when the better places really weren't better at all.

I loved our old neighborhood for the luminaries nearly everyone lit on Christmas Eve. It was awesome to drive around while listening to Christmas music.
Our youngest daughter and I like to drive around to see the Christmas displays. We want the kids to see the lights, but they fell asleep last year and missed most of it. My family didn't display outdoor decorations when I was growing up. And I don't do much, but if I had the money I'd put cool stuff out there for the grandkids to enjoy.
You're right about the wealthier homes being reminiscent of shopping malls. It's not the same. I'm sad that we have two empty houses on our street. And some families don't put out any lights. :crying: We used to look out our living room window and see some cool displays across the street. They changed it every year. Now they have an upper middle class home in the country somewhere. Some people down the street had pretty lights but they aged and stop putting their lights up. Now they've moved away.
We are going to Nashville to see lights there and I heard that if ya want lights, then that is where to go. I can't wait, I am going to stop and pick up my grandson to take with me. can't wait.
