Ahh, I can't wait for christmas, the best part is having the homemade candy!
Grandma also makes to die for peanut butter balls. MMMM...

I don't know if you can find them in the US. In fact, it's a german tradition, and there are now to be found in France as well. The gingerbread is soft, and covered with milk chocolate or plain chocolate.

If you think about it, they really wouldnt be too hard to make. Just make, or buy gingerbread, and then dip them in chocolate. I think I will try that sometime.

I have the worst sweet tooth! My favorites are salt water taffy- the ones with the christmas tree in them and of course ribbon candy. My Grandma used to keep a bowl of the ribbon candy on a table that was especially for us kids. :snowman:

My Aunt Margaret used to keep a box of ribbon candy at her house anytime you wanted one. She has been gone for almost 12 years now. I really miss her. My mom likes the ppermint nougats that was mentioned with the tree in the middle

Yes my grandma passed away a couple of years ago- it isn't the same as buying your own. We always felt like we were participating in something special just for us. That is okay there is always time for more traditions with my kids and future grandkids.

I love the ribbon candy that comes boxed..I've seen it sold at eckerds...kmart..walgreens. For candy to make I always make my buckeyes & peppermint bark & toffee bark every year. I have the recipes if anyone wants them..

The peppermint bark sounds yummy! I try to make home made goodies for gifts every year- that might be a good one. I would love the recipe!

INGREDIENTS:
2 pounds white chocolate
30 small peppermint candy canes
DIRECTIONS:
1. Line a large jellyroll pan with heavy-duty foil.
2. Place white chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl. Heat in microwave on medium setting for 5 to 6 minutes. Stir occasionally, until chocolate is melted and smooth.
3. Place candy canes in a plastic bag, or between two pieces of waxed paper. Using a mallet or rolling pin, break the candy canes into chunks. Stir peppermint into melted white chocolate. Spread evenly in pan, and chill until set, about 1 hour. Break into pieces by slamming pan on counter.

I seen them at walmart 2 1# bags for $6 but they only had plain ones not my favorite with peanuts. I want the peanut ones to make Santa trail mix and HO HO HO Hash with . I am not sure whether or not I will have the money to make both but I am going to try. I have to save money back for my fruits.

My favorite Christmas candy is chocolate covered pretzels (do they count?), chocolate liquor beads and chocolate covered marzipan. But, the candy I associate most with Christmas is ribbon candy (even though I'm not wild about it). We always had it growing up. Good memories. :santa-smiley:

ITA, only I prefer the non-alcoholic version.
