While I've never spent Christmas Eve/Day in the mountains, I have been to the North Carolina and Tenneessee mountains during the Christmas season... My family loves to visit the Biltmore Estate (http://www.biltmore.com) in Asheville, NC during Christmas to see all of the beautiful decorations. I've also been to Dollywood (http://www.dollywood.com) in Pigeon Forge, TN.
